Verna Kay Duffield–Caviness was born on Thursday, December 5th, 1935 in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of William H. and Mary Lou Cobb (McDaniel) Duffield. She was raised in a family with one brother, Pete and three sisters, Daisy, Alvada, and Anna. She attended school in Tahlequah and graduated. Verna met the man that would be her best friend and the father of her children, JD Caviness. They raised their sons, Larry, Michael, Randy, Rickie, and Steven. She volunteered as a receptionist for the Senior Citizens Building and worked as a nurses aide in the hospital. She was caring and kind to everyone committed to her care. When she wasn’t working, you could find her cooking wonderful meals for her family, quilting or crocheting, cleaning and I mean her house was spotless. She was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. She loved being outdoors. There were always flowers gardens to tend to. She was a faithful member of Briggs Holiness Church and Verna showed her love for the Lord by serving the church in any capacity and tending to the needs of her neighbors. She was outgoing, friendly, hardworking and the most loving of people. For all she had left to do, the Lord called this wonderful woman home from her labors on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019 at her home, surrounded by those she loved most. She was 83 years old. She will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, husband JD Caviness, son Michael Caviness, brother Jessie Pete Duffield, Sister Daisy Manners, and two grandchildren, Chanda Caviness and Joseph Caviness.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Larry Caviness and companion Vickie Ross of Tahlequah, Randy Caviness, Rickie Caviness and wife Marquita and Steven Caviness and wife Kim all of Tahlequah. She leaves two sisters, Alvada Adair and husband Johnny and Anna Mae Buzzard all of Tahlequah. She lives on in her thirteen grandchildren, Madison Caviness, Jayce Caviness, Jacob Caviness, Michael Shane Caviness, Matthew Wilson, Larry Caviness Jr., Sarah McBride, Ricky Caviness Jr., Jason Caviness, Tanya Caviness, and Kobe Caviness, as well as many great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
