Ruby Faye (Collins) Hamilton was born on September 15th, 1935, in Liberal, Kansas. The daughter of Broxer and Pearl (Ryder) Collins. She was next to the oldest of seven children. The family later moved to the Woodall area of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Ruby attended Grade School through Middle School at Woodall, then attended Tahlequah High School. She was a popular student and was elected Sr. Class Queen. She graduated in May of 1954. In June of 1955, Ruby married her true love, Johnny Mark Hamilton of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma and moved to the Ft. Gibson area where they raised their family of one daughter, Terri and one son, Buddy.
Ruby didn’t have a career outside of the home but had one of the most important jobs around. She was a homemaker. She always made her home a warm and happy place that not only her own children loved to be in, but the neighbor kids loved to be in also. The Hamilton home was a popular gathering spot for all of Terri and Buddy’s friends, and Ruby loved it. She spoiled and took care of them just like she took care of her own children and influenced them to seek Jesus. She even kept a couple of good friend’s children while they worked, creating a life-long bond. She was a great cook and seamstress, she loved books and reading, she loved bowling and was on several winning teams, she loved music and being creative, she made three complete ceramic Nativity sets that were absolutely beautiful. One for herself, one for Terri and one for Buddy and they are put on display every Christmas season.
Ruby was a devout Christian and long-time member of Crescent Valley Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. She was a Sunday school teacher; she and Johnny were Youth Leaders for many years where they grew lasting relationships. Those kids were “their kids” and they loved them dearly. There were trips to Branson, Missouri to Silver Dollar City along with ski trips out to Colorado, and New Mexico. She was in the choir, WMU, taught and later worked in the office every Vacation Bible School until she got older, and cooked at Falls Creek.
Grandchildren appeared on the scene, and they couldn’t have been loved more. Kaitlyn, J.J., Kirsten and Kolbye were truly blessed with a grandmother that loved them unconditionally and sacrificially. She was also excited about the approaching births of her great grandchildren, Jaxon and Aiden. She never missed a ball game or event they were in. Ruby was a kind, compassionate and caring person and was willing to help anyone who needed it. We have all been heaven blessed by this angel on earth. Ruby went to be with the Lord on November 21st, 2022, after a year of declining health. She was ready, and she never lost that sparkle in her eye and her funny sense of humor. Ruby was 87 years old and was the last one of her siblings to make her way to heaven. Her husband Johnny, and her parents preceded her in death.
Funeral services for Ruby will be held 10:00am, Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Crescent Valley Church with Bro. Mike Hamilton and Chaplain Jon Cregor officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Holland Cemetery in Tahlequah, OK.
