Funeral services for Rodney Jay Buckhorn will be held Tuesday, June 11th, 2019 at 2:00pm at Reed-Culver Chapel with Pastor Bill Pettit, Phillip "Yogie" Bread and Reuben O'Field officiating. He will be interred at Long Springs Cemetery in Pumpkin Hollow. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 10th, 2019 from 3:00pm until 6:00pm with a Wake Service from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Rodney Jay Buckhorn went home to be with Our Lord on June 5, 2019 at the age of 35 years and 23 days.
He was born to Linda Cummings and James Buckhorn on May 13, 1984 in Tahlequah, OK.
Rodney graduated from Oaks Mission High School in 2003. He worked as a Security Guard for many years until his illness. Playing Music was his life passion, he played many instruments, but the guitar and drums were his preference. He played many genres of music, but loved to jam to the Blues. At the early age of 10, he played drums for the gospel group, The Gospel Review. He jammed with many bands over the years: PHB, Badwater, Guardian Angel, Native Circle just to name a few, but most of all he loved playing for his family's Gospel Group, the Cummings Family. Recently Rod got the privilege to travel with Bourbon Highway and perform in Americas Got Talent. He loved playing for many benefits; one of his last big gigs was for the Native American Wounded Warrior Project.
Rod was such a loving, caring, and humorous person; he never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved spending time with his wife, Andrea his two sons Eli-sha Rain and Tailor Vai, his grandkids, nieces and nephews. Rod enjoyed being around family at holiday gatherings.
Rod is survived by his wife, Andrea Buckhorn of the home, two sons, Eli-sha Rain and Tailor Vai of Rocky Ford, OK, three step children, Amanda Kendricks of Owasso, Ok, Chase Vann and Collin Vann both of Tahlequah, OK, his mother-in-law, Pamela Iron, six grandchildren, Lilly, Eimya, Amelia, London, Jay Cash and Colby, his parents, James and Linda Buckhorn of Rocky Ford, OK, his God Parents, Majel and James John of Aztec, NM and their daughter Javiera of Denver, CO. He is also survived by one Brother, Jonathan Buckhorn and Fiancé Melody Sands of Leach, OK, one sister, Charlissa Buckhorn-Birdtail and Husband Micky of Tahlequah, OK, three nieces, Keilauna, Winter Fawn and Baylee, four nephews, Jasper, Joel, Skylar and Kaleb.
He is preceded in death by his stillborn daughter, his paternal grandparents, Garner and Charlotte Buckhorn, maternal grandmother, Lucille Cummings-Gourd, a great uncle, Sanford Cummings, four uncles, Randall Cummings, Able "Boss" Cummings, Jack Ross and Leon Buckhorn, one aunt, Nancy Cummings, two cousins Cheryl and Samuel Cummings and father-in-law, Floyd Iron.
He will be greatly missed by many friends and family. The Bluesman is jamming on the Streets of Gold.
