Robert "Wheezy" Edward Davis was born August 22, 1996, in Lenior, North Carolina to Benjamin Franklin Davis III and Bobbie Bowlin (Shirrel). He grew up in a lively home with two brothers, David and Michael, and one sister Heather. Robert was a kind-hearted and gentle soul, a remarkable young man with a heart of gold. As a child, Robert’s home was always field with the fun, laughter, and memories of children running around and having fun. The great outdoors beckoned him, and he loved floating the Illinois River and spending time with his cousins, riding four-wheelers, go-karts, and spending time out in the field. As a child, he loved playing hide and seek with his cousins and siblings. His sister fondly recalls a time when Robert, as a child, said "I can't see you" while playing hide and seek, not realizing he was standing right in front of her.
Despite the difficulties that life presented Robert, he continued to face life head-on and continued to strive forward. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and worked as a custodian at Grandview Elementary School, touching the lives of countless students and staff. As a “Simple Man”, Robert's love for life was evident in his passions. He was an avid fan of OU football who also enjoyed playing video games and collecting knives. Robert was a homebody who adored his niece and nephews and cherished every moment spent with them. Robert's family cherished his love for Charlie's Chicken chunks and Dr Pepper – simple pleasures that brought him immense joy. What defined Robert, however, was his love for family. His family remembers him as a kind, gentle, and caring individual who always put others before himself.
Those left to cherish Robert’s memory include his grandmother, Betty Shirrel; mother, Bobbie Bowlin (Shirrel); aunt, Robin Cartwright; uncle, David Cartwright; brother, Michael William Davis; sister, Heather Allyson Hess and husband Zach; nephews, Jax Benjamin Davis and Hayden Hess; and niece, Olivia Grace Davis.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jim Shirrel; father, Benjamin Franklin Davis III; brother, David Allen Shirrel; aunt, Susan Sparks; and uncle, Glen Sparks. Robert left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew him. His life was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and simplicity. As we mourn the loss of this incredible young man, we take comfort in the memories we shared with him. Robert's love, kindness, and generosity inspired us all, and his legacy will live on in our hearts. Robert, your bright smile and loving heart will be deeply missed. May your memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved you. Rest in peace, dear Robert. Your love and light will never be forgotten.
"Wheezy" will be laid to rest "In Our Hearts Forever."
