Robert Haner, or Bob to his friends, was born on September 19th, 1930, in Yonkers, OK, the son of Thomas and Audie (Warman) Haner. There were brothers and a sister at this loving home, Art, Richard, Millard, Flora Mae, and Glen, as well as a half-brother, Ben. He attended school in Yonkers, and in Bob’s opinion, it was the best community on earth. He loved the people and all his friends and neighbors. In January of 1949, he enlisted in the US Army, serving his country in the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in January of 1952. Bob had earned the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, Korean Svc Medal and numerous other awards. He returned to Oklahoma, and married Evelyn Christine Foreman on Valentine’s Day of 1953, in Arkansas. This love withstood the test of time, lasting 63 years. Together, they raised a family of two sons and one daughter, Robert Arthur, Andy Shawn, who died in infancy, and Kelly Jean Haner. Robert was a family man, pure and simple. He kept in constant contact with his parents, siblings, and relatives. Summers found the entire family gathering their campers together to vacation at various locations throughout the US. Family dinners at Momma’s house in Claremore were well attended and began with everyone gathered and giving their thanks to God. Bob took care of his family, if ever there were illness or an emergency, all the family banded together, seeking strength from one another. Bob served others as well, working as a Captain of the Bartlesville Fire department from 1953-1973. He then retired and worked on the Delaware County Police force from 1974 until a heart attack retired him in 1987. He had many hobbies. He loved coon hunting, rabbit, bird and pheasant hunting, and competing in mule jumping competitions. He loved a good turkey shoot, competing in pool tournaments, fishing and gigging at Eucha, to name a few. The trophies piled up, but it was more about the family having fun together. He passed his love of these sports on to his grand and great grandchildren. He made sure his daughter and granddaughter knew what made their car run, how to change a flat, change the oil, drive a tractor, and using a pair of jumper cables. He was an accomplished welder, and made anything from smokers to wagons. Then he smoked meat for everyone in the family to enjoy. He loved to gather the family, then he would rock the babies, giving them love to last a life time. He attended all the sporting events of his grandkids and his nieces and nephews, traveling miles to support them in their endeavors, from rodeo’s to MMA. At the age of 83, Robert got his first great grandbaby, and Abigail was his pride and joy! You never found one too far from the other, the best of friends for life! Roberts mother became too ill to care for herself at home. Robert and his brothers and sister took turns caring for her at her home several nights a week. This was a life until she passed, allowing her to stay in her beloved home. Robert knew what was important, and was always there to provide, protect, and serve. Robert and his buddy, Bill Brickey and Doc Vammen started the new and present Oaks Senior Citizens Center, following the fire that destroyed the first center, taking turns buying the groceries and helping with meal preparation. He had a large heart and cared for all those around him. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from his labors to join his beloved Evelyn Christine for a well-deserved rest. He will be greatly missed.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn two sons, Robert Arthur Haner and Andy Shawn Haner, one half-brother, Ben Haner, his brothers, Art Haner, Richard Haner, and Millard Haner.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Kelly Carnes of Oaks, OK, one sister, Flora Mae Andrews and husband Darryl of Neosho, MO, and his brother, Glen Haner and wife Linda of Locust grove, OK. Robert leaves three sisters-in-law, Judy McMurtrey of Bartlesville, OK, Wanda Rogers of Oaks, OK, and Bonita Smith of Oaks, OK. Robert lives on in his two grandchildren, Jayme Carnes and Casey Carnes, and his adored great granddaughter, Abigail Carnes all of Oaks, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones all over northeastern OK.
