Peggy was born on December 24th, 1944, the fourth child and only daughter of Reverend Levi and Maggie Flute (Fields). She grew up in Adair County, and told many joyful stories of her childhood in Malloy Hollow and other small communities in which her father preached.
She and Sam McCoy were married July 30th, 1963, and together had three children: Michael, Rhonda, and Darrell. Despite losing her son Darrell in 1989, and later her husband Sam in 2010, she never lost her faith in Jesus; she took great comfort in worship and prayer and so was a faithful member of the Dry Creek Baptist Church. Even as her own body grew tired and sick, she praised God when she rose in the morning and again when she lay down at night.
Her children and grandchildren held her hands when she walked on - hands that had cooked many good meals, gave sweet hugs, wiped tears, and planted flowers. She loved and was loved until the end.
Peggy was joined again in Gloryland with her husband Sam and her son Darrell, her parents Levi and Maggie Flute, and her brothers Leo Flute, George Watt Flute, Norman Flute, Tom Thirsty, and Charlie Thirsty.
She is survived by her children, Mike McCoy and his wife Dee, and Rhonda Welsh and her husband Harmon, and by her loving companion Calvin McCoy. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kendall and Darrell McCoy, Tashina Snell, Forrest and Laney Cully, Maggie Welsh, and Logan, Kaden, and Raegan Rill; they will always fight over who exactly was Granny’s favorite. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and many others whom she loved fiercely.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Dry Creek Community Building on Tuesday, July 19th, 2022 at 6:00pm. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until 6:00pm on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022 at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, July 21st, 2022 at Reed-Culver Chapel with Steve Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Bolin Cemetery in Dry Creek, OK. Mike McCoy, Darrell McCoy, Calvin McCoy, Harmon Welsh, Chris Fourkiller, Harvey Johnson, Roman Flute and Roger Thorn will serve as pallbearers.
Though her time in her body has ended, she is alive still and always in us. When heartbreak feels like it may overcome you, give the love you have for her to each other and remember John 16:22: “… now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”
