Pauline Scott was born on July 22nd, 1924 in Ft. Gibson, around the Ft. Gruber area, the daughter of John and Mary (Igert) Rattling Gourd. She grew up with three brothers and one sister and attended Braggs School. In 1940, she met and married Sylvester Dub Scott, Dub to his family and friends, in the Ft. Gibson area, stepping over the walking stick to seal their marriage. Together they raised 14 children. They began their married lives picking cotton in the southwestern area of the US. They would later resettle in the Oklahoma area. Pauline was a hard working, loving wife, daughter, mother to 14 children, grandmother, and friend. Each new day found Pauline and her famous saying, “First thing I say of a morning when I slap my feet on the floor is Thank You Jesus!” She appreciated each day as a gift from God, and she made the most of it. She was never idle, sewing clothes for her children, making quilt tops, or even sewing doll clothes for the children. She raised large gardens, canning her produce to feed her family. Life on the farm meant there was always something needing to be done. Pauline always had a pot of her beans and cornbread and fried potatoes ready to feed her hungry family. The cream from the cows provided her family with her home churned butter and wonderful desserts. She loved music, being raised in the era of gatherings around the fiddle, listening to her Daddy play the old gospel favorites. Her Bible was in her hands daily, leaning on the everlasting arms of the Savior she adored. She attended Union Gospel Church and taught her children and grandchildren to love and serve the Lord who sustained them. Her grandchildren came to visit her as often as they could, and this was a very special treat for Pauline. She was so very proud of all their accomplishments. As time passed, she would spend hours sitting on her front porch, enjoying the day, her family, and everyone she watched pass by. Her health began to fail her and she passed from this life on Saturday, April 9th, 2016 in Tahlequah, OK at the age of 91 years, 8 months, and 16 days. Pauline leaves a legacy of strength and love, for all her family and her many friends.
Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dub, five of her children, baby Ireva Scott, daughter Betty Suazo, baby Albert Scott, son Brent Dudley Scott, and son Ricky Lee Scott.
