Melvin "Tommy" Simmons

Hulbert, OK- Funeral services for Melvin Thomas Simmons will be held on Friday, February 7th, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Peggs Community Church with Reverend Rex Hendrickson officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6th, 2014 at Reed-Culver Chapel from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM. Interment will be held at New Home Cemetery in Peggs, OK. Pallbearers for Tommy include David Sunday, Greg Tomblin, Terry McKinney, Ernie Gene Lyons, Jerry Simmons, and Paul Wayne Simmons.

Melvin Thomas Simmons was born on December 27th, 1958 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Paul and Rhoda (Sunday) Simmons. He was joined at home by three brothers, Paul, Jerry, and Michael and a sister, Sonja. Known as Tommy to his family and friends, Tommy worked as a security guard. Whenever he wasn’t working, Tommy loved to be out doors. He loved to hunt and spend a day at his favorite fishing spot. He was an animal lover and was especially fond of horses. He even enjoyed fighting roosters. Of all the things Tommy enjoyed in life, he loved his family and especially his daughters, Tonya and Shantel. He was so very proud of all their accomplishments. Tommy enjoyed a quiet afternoon in the peace of the countryside. He was quiet and thoughtful, but possessed an onery streak. He was flirtatious and enjoyed teasing and joking with his friends. Tommy’s health began to fail and he passed from this life on February 1st, 2014 in Hulbert, OK. Tommy was 55 years old. He will be missed by all those who loved and knew him.

Tommy has been preceded in death by his mother, his father, his brother Michael Simmons, and his grandparents.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Sonja Hartness of Wagoner, OK, Paul Simmons of Peggs, OK, and Jerry Simmons of Peggs, OK. His legacy lives on in his two daughters, Tawnya Newman and Shantel Cramer, several adored grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
