Lula Esther Rogers, or Esther to her many friends, was born on Monday, September 11th, 1922 in Neosho, MO, the daughter of Phillipe and Callie Elizabeth (McHolland) Garcia. She attended school until the 3rd grade, because all the family was needed working, to make ends meet in the great depression. She began a family with a daughter, Levona, but she lost her precious girl at the age of six to the diphtheria outbreak in the area, and she never forgot her lovely little girl. She married John Samuel “Sam” Rogers on September 17th, 1945, and relocated the family to Arizona. It was here her husband worked construction and finally moved the family back to Oklahoma in 1971.She went on to be the proud Mama of four sons, Trumon, David, Garry and Daniel, they were her pride and joy. She was a business woman and owned and operated the Rogers Retail Shop, where she sold everything from collectibles to video games, clothing, and household wares. She absolutely loved people and it showed, she always had that big smile and a friendly hello. She also helped her husband Sam to take care of the farm and crops he raised. Whenever she had the chance, Esther loved to travel around the countryside, seeing all there was to see. From Arizona to Dodge City, she liked meeting people and seeing how they lived. When she was home, she was always at a yard sale, gathering more items for her shop, especially collecting glassware like carnival and Depression glass. She was always happy to have her family gathered around her, especially for a big meal, and no one made better biscuits, cobbler, or cherry pie than Esther. She was happy, thoughtful, generous, and a friend to all who knew her. Her grand and great grandchildren were the best part of any day, she thought they were wonderful. When she was younger, she attended the Blue Springs/Gideon Church. Her beloved Sam passed in 2001. She remained in her shop until her health no longer permitted. She passed from this life on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 in Tahlequah, Ok. She will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, husband Sam, son David Rogers daughter, Levona Burgess, and her grandparents.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Trumon Burgess of Tahlequah, OK, Garry Rogers and wife Denice of Arizona, and Daniel Rogers and wife Randi Korn of Alexandria, VA. She lives on in her twelve grandchildren, Trudy, Lisa, Tina, Sunny, Michael, Michelle, Todd, Timothy, Adam, Marcus, Katharine and Mindy. She also leaves a host of great and great-great grandchildren as well as many cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
