Larry James Trammel was born on May 23, 1954 in Moodys, OK. He was the fifth of six children born to Loys McClain Trammel and Melba Pauline (Young) Trammel. He attended Moody School and was the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of his 8th grade class, being the only student to graduate that year. He attended Tahlequah High School, where he met the love of his life, Connie Joyce Hix. Larry graduated in 1972 by the skin of his teeth and thanks to his teachers Mrs. Girdner (his English teacher who moved up a grade each year he did) and Mr. Hathaway (his Ag/Shop teacher). Working at Clem Griffin’s laundromat and the Tahlequah Sale Barn, he managed to save and buy three cars for his mom before he graduated.
After high school, he went to work with his brother David at Paddock Pools. He traveled the Midwest building swimming pools with his brothers David and Joe, LD Drywater and Ray Barnes. In 1974, he and Connie married at the Moody Church of Christ and made their home in Grandview. There they welcomed their first child. Larry owned and operated the laundromat he worked at during high school for a few years. In 1979, they built their home on the family’s land in Moody and their family grew to include two more daughters and a son. He went to work for the State of Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation in the 80s, leaving early on Mondays and returning Friday evenings. In 1989, he left that job to become a full-time rancher. He spent the rest of his days raising cattle and his children and spending every day with his wife.
Larry was a founding member of the Lowrey Volunteer Fire Department and spent many years active in the community. He could always be found behind the scenes at any local event until his health declined. He was also an elder at the South College Church of Christ, a position he was honored to receive.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Loretta Long and husband Joe, Sue Ogle, and one brother Joe Trammel.
