Larry James Deckard

Larry James Deckard, or “Bear” or “Judge” to his many family and friends, was born on January 27th, 1964 in Tahlequah, Ok, the son of Edward and Janice Gale (Ryker) Deckard. He was raised with four brothers, Donald, Leonard, Edward and Tracy. He attended school at both Briggs and Tahlequah. He decided on a career as a tire technician and worked for both Danny’s Tire and Jordan’s Tire, both here in Tahlequah. He married his first wife Darlene Gritts and together they had a daughter, Sonya. Darlene passed from this life in 1985 and he then met and married Debra Ann Caudle, in Tahlequah, OK, on July 27th, 1991. Together they would add two more daughters into Larry’s life, Maggie and Ommie, and enjoy each others company. Larry loved his wife, daughters and grandchildren. When ever he had free time, he could be found getting ready to go fishing, do a little deer hunting, or raising fighting chickens. He loved riding the dirt roads and visiting with all the neighbors. There was nothing better than an afternoon spent sunning on the porch, smoking ribs and spending time with his grandkids, he adored them. He was fun to be around, always had a good time. He had stories for just about every occasion, and had never met a stranger. When he watched TV, you could bet it was OU Sooner Football, he was a big fan. Larry was a man that loved life just the way he found it, and liked the sunsets from his porch the best. Larry passed from this life on December 21st, 2020 at his home, surrounded by those he knew and loved dearly. He was 56 years old and leaves an empty chair that cannot be filled.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Otto and Sarah Mildred (Johnson) Ryker, and Luther and Edna Deckard, his Mom and Dad, two brothers, Donald Lorrett and Leonard Deckard, his first wife, Darlene Deckard, and his grandson, Cody Murphy in 2004.

Those left to remember Larry and the life he led include his wife , Debra Deckard of the home in Briggs, and his three daughters, Maggie Caudle of Tahlequah, Ommie Carrera of Tahlequah, and Sonya Davidson and husband Faron of Tahlequah, OK. He leaves two brothers, Edward Deckard and wife Tammy of Tahlequah, OK, and Tracy Deckard also of Tahlequah, OK. He lives on in his five very special grandchildren, Shelby Caudle, Logan Sunday, Madison Murphy, Addilyn Davidson, and Sebastian Birdtail all of Tahlequah, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.

Graveside services for Larry James Deckard will be held on Monday, December 28th, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Ross Cemetery Park Hill, OK with Reverend DJ McCarter officiating. The family will host a visitation Sunday, beginning at 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Reed-Culver Chapel. He will be laid to rest in the family section at Ross Cemetery. Pallbearers for Larry include Logan Sunday, Brad Sunday, Randy Feathers, James Weaver, William Pruitt, Joey Birdtail, and Sebastian Birdtail.
