Funeral services for John Wincle “Buster”Jackson will be held on Tuesday, May 17th, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Reed-Culver Chapel with Pastor Denise Jackson officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 16th, 2016 from noon until 6:00 PM. Interment will be held at Tahlequah City Cemetery. Online condolences for his family may be left at www.reedculver.com.

Buster Jackson was born on September 21st, 1923 in Vian, OK, the son of Robert and Maude McCollum-Jackson. He grew up with his brothers and sister, Robert Jr., Billy and Wanda and attended school in Tahlequah, graduating during WWII. He had been working as a grocer’s assistant when he was inducted into the US Navy, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre of war aboard the USS Fabius, an LST designed for support during amphibious operations in the pacific. Buster served honorably until he was discharged after 2 years, 9 months and 16 days. He returned to Tahlequah and began his studies at NSU to obtain his teaching degree. It was here he met and fell in love with Wilma Lee Jordan, who was likewise studying to become a teacher. They were married on August 2nd, 1948 in Tahlequah, OK, and blessed with a long and happy marriage and one son, Jerry John Jackson. For years Buster and Wilma taught students all over Kansas and Oklahoma, a job both of them loved immensely. Their spare time was devoted to the First General Baptist Church, where he spent 44 years teaching Sunday School, helping with the Robertson Youth Camps every summer, serving his Lord and Savior in any way he could. He liked spare moments spent fishing and loved college football, especially OU. He was a devoted educator, husband, father and grandfather. He adored any chance he had to spend time with his two granddaughters, Hannah and Emma, they were his favorite friends! His wife Wilma passed away in 2007.Buster remained in is home looked after by his son, Jerry. The Lord called this wise and wonderful servant home on May 12th, 2016 at his home in Tahlequah, OK. Buster was 92 years old. He will be greatly missed for all the young minds he helped to develop and the friendship he gave to so many pupils.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Robert and Billy Joe, and one sister, Wanda Westmoreland. Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Jerry of the home in Tahlequah, OK, his grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Jackson and Emma Jayne Alston. His legacy lives on in his great grandchild, Skylynn Checota Alston, soon to be born and his daughter-in-law, Lois Lesserman, as well as many cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
