JoAnn Francis Crowl-Carter was born on December 9th, 1932 in Jenks, OK, the daughter of Elmer and Eva Crowl. She grew up with two brothers, AJ and Elmer Ray, who died during WWII after his ship was sunk by a Uboat. Upon graduating from school, JoAnn woul meet and marry her life’s companion for 59 years, Albert Carter. They were wed on February 2nd, 1950 and they raised two children, one son Larry and one daughter, Mary Francis. JoAnn’s husband spent his working career in the USAF. While traveling with him, she graduated from school with her LPN Degree. She followed her husband from Texas to Oklahoma, from Louisiana to California, and three years in Japan. She was a member of several home economist/extension groups, where they shared their knowledge of homemaking to future generations, canning, cooking, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She loved any time spent with her family, she enjoyed outings, traveling, and being at home. She was a Christian by faith and a practicing Baptist, attending Carter Baptist Church every chance she could. She loved singing in the choir. Her beloved Albert passed in 2009, and JoAnn remained on the farm the two of them had worked for so many years. Her health began to fail her and her son Larry remained at her side, helping with daily life. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her labors on April 15th, 2016 at her home in Park Hill, OK. She was 83 years old. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
