Jimmie Joe Holmes was born on December 1st, 1953 in Tahlequah, OK at Hastings Hospital, the son of Wilson and Narcy (Hooper) Holmes. He grew up in a household with three brothers and one sister, Larry Joe, Jack, JB, and Marion, and attended and graduated from high school in Ft. Gibson, OK. He earned his living as a transportation specialist with M&M Lumber Trucking, a job he truly excelled at. He enjoyed pool leagues in Muskogee, and literally every sport you can think of, especially OU Sooner and the NFL Chiefs. He married Jean Ellen Sevier on December 5th, 2014 in Muskogee, OK. Together they enjoyed 7 wonderful years of memories and smiles. He was the proud father of one son and one daughter, Michael and Casey. He loved time spent with them, and never missed the chance to see his seven grandchildren. He liked to go fishing, and watch the races before retiring. There were no strangers in his life, and he made the effort to speak to everyone he met. He had the kind of grin that made you feel right at home. Jimmie was proud of his Native Heritage and spoke Cherokee fluently. A Christian by faith, the Lord called Jimmie home from his labors on July 21st, 2021 in Muskogee, OK. He was 67 years young.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers, Jack Holmes and JB Holmes, and one nephew, Eddie Holmes.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jean Ellen Holmes of the home in Muskogee, OK, his son, Michael Lee Holmes of Skiatook. OK, and daughter Casey Holmes of Shawnee, OK. He also leaves one brother, Larry Joe Holmes of Anadarko, OK. And his sister, Marion Whitekiller and husband Billy of Hulbert, OK. He will live on in his seven grandchildren, as well as niece Faye Byfield of Ft. Gibson, OK, great niece, Ashley Byfield, as well as many great nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
Graveside services for Jimmie Joe Holmes will be conducted on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Barber Cemetery with Reverend Fred Igert officiating. His family will receive visitors on Tuesday, July 27th, 2021 beginning at 2:00 PM until 7:00 Pm at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Online condolences for his family may be left at www.reedculver.com.
