Jesse Walter Maner was born in the town of Springdale, AR on August 31st, 1944. He was the son of Walter Jefferson Maner and Rosie Ellen (Sykes) Maner-Haga. Jesse had three brothers and three sisters. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army. He proudly served his country, combating overseas during the Vietnam War and receiving his honorable discharge on December 2nd, 1968. After the service, he continued his education by attending OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, earning his drafting certification. He spent the following two years working for Purdue before moving back to Tahlequah. He then took a job at Greenleaf Nursery before accepting an opportunity with the City of Tahlequah in the Maintenance Department where he later retired. When Jesse wasn’t working, he treasured time spent with his family and friends camping, going to baseball games and attending concerts. Some of his favorite joys in life was collecting Louis L’amour Books, Harry Potter memorability and Archie and Jughead comic books. Jesse’s health began to fail him. On Thursday, December 24th, 2020 in Leavenworth, KS, he was called from his labors at the age 76 years old. He will be missed by all.
Jesse is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, David Wayne Maner, one sister, Linda Louise Hamilton and one brother-in-law, Larry Williams.
Those left to cherish his memory includes two brothers, Robert Wendell Maner and wife Jo of Collinsville, OK and James Richard Maner and wife Betty of Manhattan, KS and two sisters, Evelyn Capps and husband Steve of Manhattan, KS and Shirley Williams of Cottage Grove, MN. He is also survived by special friends, Jessica and Scott Edwards of Sand Springs, OK, eleven nieces and nephews and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews and a host of friends of loved ones.
Funeral services for Jesse Walter Maner will be held on Wednesday, January 6th, 2021 at 10:00am at Reed-Culver Chapel. He will be laid to rest at 12:00pm at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with military honors performed by the United States Army Honors Team. The family will be receiving guest on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.reedculver.com
