Herbert Earl Magee was born on Oct 20, 1927 in Columbia, Mississippi, to Forest and Mabelle Magee. Herb grew up in Mississippi along with his brother and four sisters. When he was 17 he joined the US Army and later the National Guard. He graduated from the NCO Academy and reached the rank of Master Sargent. He was stationed in Germany during World War II. He traveled throughout Europe during the Korean War and always said Austria was his favorite place. Herb was very proud of his military career and he enjoyed sharing stories about the mischief he and his buddies would get into. After being honorably discharged from the Army and National Guard, he moved to Oklahoma. Herb married Faye Adkisson Callaway and they began their journey together. Herb and Faye always enjoyed doing life together. Herb worked several jobs from dairy and cattle farmer, to filling stations, and even a tavern or two. He had a long career in construction and retired from being a carpenter after more than 40 years. One of his greatest passions was raising Quarter horses and game fowl. Anyone that knew him, knew how well he cared for his animals. Herb made many friends and memories at the horse races and derbies. Herb enjoyed doing all of these things with his family. If he wasn’t at the races or fights, he was at a sporting event supporting his children and later on following his grandkids to their ball games.
Those that went before him include his parents, Forrest and Mabelle Magee, his wife, Faye Magee, one daughter, Paula Magee, one son, Herbie Magee, one grandson, James Callaway, three sisters, Janean Weatherford, Williece Douglas and Ruby McCullough and one brother, Truitt Magee.
