George Amos “Butch” Mackey III was born on July 10, 1951 in Muskogee, OK, the son of George Amos Jr. and Mittie (Fausett) Mackey. He grew up with two brothers, Gary and Jimmy and five sisters, Brenda, Deborah, Diane, Mary and Sandra.
Butch graduated from Warner High School in 1969, where he was captain of the football team and member of the boxing league. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, dominoes, board games, bowling, tennis and softball.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 5, 1971, and became an Administration Specialist. During his service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged January 7, 1972, at Craig AFB in Selma, AL. He came back to the Northeastern Oklahoma area and began working as Night Supervisor at the Muskogee Phoenix before beginning his career in manufacturing, first with the HB Egan Company-Camel Tire Repair, and Brockway-Owen Glass Container Inc. until retiring from the Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Jenks OK.
January 17, 1986, he married his best friend, Patricia Wanema Anderson in Miami, OK. Together, they were blessed with four sons, Brian Kaiser, George Mackey IV, Justin Mackey, Brandon Rooks and one daughter, Andrea Rooks.
Butch was a kind and patient husband, father and grandfather. Never finding fault in anyone, he was always ready to offer a helping hand. As a troop leader of the Boy Scouts of America, he enjoyed spending time with his sons, working tirelessly with the Webelos. Hard work, loyalty and dedication were the hallmarks of Butch’s life. His spare time was spent working in his garden and watching all sports, especially the University of Oklahoma football team. Spending time with his family and friends was the highlight of his life, and despite his suffering, his faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, never wavered.
March 9, 2022 in Tulsa, OK, he left this earthly world, surrounded by loved ones. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George Amos Sr. and Flossie (Fanning) Mackey, maternal grandparents, Lafayette and Ora (Gaither) Fausett, his father George Amos Mackey Jr. and mother, Mittie Elizabeth (Fausett) Mackey.
