Tahlequah, OK- Funeral services for Fern Dell Dyer will be held on Friday, December 7th, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Tahlequah with Reverend Pat Freeman and Mr. Jim White officiating. Visitation is Thursday from noon until 8:00pm at the Reed- Culver Funeral home of Tahlequah. Interment will be held on Friday, at the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, OK. Services have been entrusted to Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah, OK.
Pallbearers for Fern include Sam White, Noah White, Richard Wood, CJ Dyer, John Cummings, Todd Johnson, Rudy Thomas, and John Dehues.
Fern Dell Dyer was born on March 9th, 1932 in Gillham, AR in Sevier County, the daughter of Clifford and Murl (Smith) Gunter. She graduated from Gillham High School. On August 29th, 1953, Fern married the love of her life, John “Jack” Dyer. This union was blessed with years of happiness and five wonderful children. Fern has worked a wide variety of jobs over the years, her favorite being wife to Jack and Mother to her children. Whenever she got the chance, Fern spent time crocheting and doing bead work. She enjoyed reading a good book. Fern was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the D.D. Etchison United Methodist Church in Tahlequah. A Christian by faith, Fern demonstrated she was a loving, and caring person to every person she met. There were no strangers at Fern’s door. She was giving of her time and talents to all those who needed her assistance. Her family was a great source of happiness and pride for Fern. She adored each and every one of her grandchildren. After her husband passed in 2004, Fern spent the remainder of her time enjoying the love of her family. The Lord called Fern home from her labors on December 5th, 2012 in Tahlequah, OK. Fern was eighty years old. She is already missed for her sweet smile and all the love she gave her family and friends alike.
Fern is preceded in death by parents, her husband, two brothers, and one great grand daughter, Haiden Wedman.
Those left to cherish her memory include her adoring children, Becky Dyer and companion Ray Hill of Park Hill, OK, son Clifford Dyer of Park Hill, OK, Julia Cummings and husband Bruce of Indianola, OK, Jacquie Evans and companion Chris Hilles of Tahlequah, OK, and Dianne Ezell and husband Ronnie of El Reno, OK. She leaves a brother-in-law, Loyd Dyer of Claremore, OK. Fern’s legacy lives on in her eleven grandchildren, Richard Wood, Kristin Prag, C.J. Dyer, Starrla Dyer, Ryan Dyer, Amanda Cummings, John Cummings, Emily Evans, Tosha Couch and husband Rueben, Tamie Reed and husband Nick, and Taryn Wedman and husband Will. She is survived by eleven great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
