Erma Jean Neugin Brewer was born on January 24th, 1941, in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of Titus Buck and Dolly (Cochran) Neugin. She joined a family of twelve brothers and sisters, Melvin, Richard, Benny, Harvey, Henry, Floyd, Dave, Timothy, Sally, Ramona, Lucille and Lydia. After graduating from high school, she attended college in Virginia and attained her Bachelors Degree, which she used to serve the Bureau of Indian Affairs as an Equal Opportunity Specialist in Washington DC. She loved her job and loved helping people better their situation in life. In 1959, while living in Dallas, she married the love of her life, Ernest Walter Brewer, and together they raised two sons, John and Adam and a daughter Phoebe, who died in childhood. After retirement in Washington DC, the family relocated to Tahlequah. Erma was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her family. When she had a little time on her hands, she loved to work in the garden, and listen to Ernie tell his stories. They teased each other’s incessantly, and had a lot of fun with their kids. Erma could cook!! She made Indian tacos that were the best, and holiday meals to remember. She could sew, and worked in her yard til it sparkled. There was a lot of fun in going out to hunt antiques. People were her passion and she always looked after everyone, it didn’t matter who. Everyone was a friend in the making for Erma. She loved everyone. A Roman Catholic by faith, Erma passed from this life on Friday, November 17th, 2017 in Tahlequah, OK, with her loving sons at her side. She was 76 years old. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, all of her brothers and sisters, her husband Ernest who preceded her in September, and her beloved daughter, Phoebe.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, John Brewer and Adam Ray Brewer all of Tahlequah, and her grandson, Michael Ernest Brewer also of Tahlequah. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
