Dorma Bell Hollis was born on Tuesday, September 30th, 1924 in Fairfax, OK, the daughter of Robert and Rosa (Skakah) Kissee. She was raised in a family with two brothers and two sisters, Robert Clinton “RC”, Calvin, Viola and Willie. She attended Chilocco Indian School between the years 1937-1941 and moved on to Haskell Jr College where she obtained her Associates Degree at the age of 18, working her way up to Executive Administrator of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Dorma was a proud member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe. During WWII, she would meet and marry her best friend, Glen W. Hollis. Together they would raise two sons and one daughter, Dwight, Stephen, and Brenda. Glen had been wounded in the war and died at the early age of 55. Dorma was never one to sit idly by. She embraced life, working constantly and enjoyed being around people, doing all she could to help those that needed her. She worked until the age of 77. When she was home, she sewed all her daughter’s school clothes by hand. She was always in constant company with her canine companions, “Tinker Bell” and Fonzie”. She raised her grandson Chris and kept up with all his activities, especially loved trips to the park even though she wasn’t allowed to drive! Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she loved taking them fishing and spending the day in their company. She was always the happiest when surrounded by the family and friends she adored. She had a warm smile and always made you feel welcome in her home. Dorma was a long-time member of the Wyandotte First Baptist Church, enjoying all the fellowship with her church family, serving in any capacity they asked of her. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her labors on Saturday, January 12th, 2019 at her daughter’s home in Hulbert, OK. She was 94 years old and leaves a void that no one else can ever fill.
Dorma is preceded in death by her mother, father, her beloved husband Glen in 1979, one son, Stephen Hollis, a brother, Calvin Kissee, one sister, Viola Miles Conrad, and adopted granddaughter, Tammy Hollis.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Dwight Hollis of Wyandotte, OK, and daughter Brenda Hooper of Hulbert, OK. She also leaves one brother, Robert Clinton Kissee of Seneca, MO, and one sister, Willie Blakeburn of Oklahoma City, OK. She lives on in her twelve grandchildren, Justin Hollis and wife Shannon, Jeromy Hollis, Jordan Hollis, Dana Inkelaar, Cherokee Waggoner, Shonna Hollis, Tina Sanders, Shawna Cole, Shayne Hooper, Joe Hooper, and adopted granddaughter Brenda Michelle Grubbs and grandson, Chris Hollis. She also leaves her great grandchildren, Nyveeaudica Belle Cole, Lyvia Cole, Adrian Sanders and wife Tyler French, Jaidyn Grayson, Takoda Hollis, Heather Summerville and husband Jarred Summerville, Hali Grubbs, Ella Bell Grubbs, Chase Hollis, Preston Hollis, Sierra Gilray, Paris Schertz and great-great grandchildren Major Sanders, Cannon Sanders, Phoenix Sanders, Natalie Grubbs, King Ascencio, Elijah Ascencio, Mason Ascencio, Trent Summerville, Blake Summerville, Rayleigh Summerville, Trevor Waggoner, Gavin Robinson, Madison Betts, Natalie Betts, Kylin Melton, and Sawyer Gilray as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
