Derek "Boom" Lee Dixon, a shining light of hope and resilience, passed away on March 24, 2025, at the age of 34. Born on November 16, 1990, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Derek was a beacon of inspiration to all who knew him.
Despite being born with spina bifida, Derek never let his disability define him. Raised in a loving home, Derek grew into a strong and courageous individual, surrounded by his two loving sisters, Rene Diane Jones and Lekiesha Marie Dixon. Together, the three siblings shared a childhood filled with laughter, love, and adventure, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Derek's passions were many and varied. He loved fishing and hunting, and spent countless hours tinkering with things, taking them apart and putting them back together. He was a whiz with cars and was always on his phone, staying connected with loved ones and friends. After graduating from Kansas High School, Derek pursued his interest in auto mechanics, attending auto mechanics school and further developing his skills.
Derek's love for country music brought him immense joy. He spent hours watching birds, particularly cardinals and hummingbirds, on the cameras in his room. But Derek's greatest companion was his loyal and beloved dog, Rascal. The two were inseparable, and it was clear that Rascal held a special place in Derek's heart. In fact, it became a running joke among family and friends that whenever Derek received an Amazon package, you could bet that there was something special inside for Rascal. Derek's love and devotion to his furry friend were a testament to his kind and compassionate spirit. Derek's infectious enthusiasm and zest for life inspired all who knew him.
But most of all, Derek loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and lived his life according to the principles of his faith. His favorite biblical song, "Surely Goodness and Mercy," was a testament to his unwavering faith. We could all learn something from the way Derek looked at life - with optimism, courage, and a heart full of joy. His attitude was a reminder that life is precious, and that every day is a gift to be cherished.
Derek is survived by his loving mother, Carmen Adele (Garner) Dixon of the home; his father, Lee Austin Dixon, and wife Judy; his sister, Lekiesha Marie Dixon; and his faithful companion, Rascal. He is preceded in death by his sister, Rene Diane Jones, who passed away just ten months ago.
Though Derek's passing leaves a gaping hole in the lives of those who loved him, his legacy of courage, resilience, and faith will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him. Derek's life was a testament to the power of the human spirit, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
Rest in peace, Derek. Your life was a gift to us all, and your memory will never be forgotten.
A memorial service for Boom will be held Friday, April 4, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Kansas First Baptist Church, 360 North Kansas Street, Kansas, Oklahoma.
