David Olen Copeland- age 77 of Hulbert OK, passed from this life, March 8th, 2013 in Tahlequah, OK. Funeral Services will be held 9:30 AM Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Reed Culver Chapel in Tahlequah, OK with Reverend Jerry Henson officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Corbell, Joe Bowlin, Jacob Corbell, Randy Jordan, Randall Jordan, and Rusty Jordan. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Jordan, and Chick Morgan.
David Olen Copeland entered this life January 10, 1936 in Hulbert, OK the son of William Henry Harrison and Lucinda A. (Smalley) Copeland. David proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 until 1958. David retired as a park manager of Sequoyah State Park where he instituted the first hiking and exercise trails which are still in use today. He was a member of the Tahlequah Elks Lodge and American Legion Post 135. David enjoyed life to the fullest and it was evident he liked being around people in the way he loved to tell stories, joke, and pull pranks on his friends, as well as, taking the time to help others that might be headed down the wrong path, by working with the Taft Prison inmate program. He also loved to go to the Elks Lodge for a night of dancing and listening to country music. David liked to work with his hands and enjoyed doing carpentry work.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Mary Lou Coles and two brothers; Robert Dean Copeland, and Nathaniel Copeland.
Those left to carry his legacy include two daughters; Lajuana Corbell and husband Michael of Fort Gibson, OK and Lisa Welch and Joe Bowlin of Hulbert, OK three brothers; Francis Copeland of Michigan, Johnny Copeland of Hulbert, OK and Willis Copeland of Muskogee, OK and two grandsons; Jacob Corbell and Benton Joe Bowlin, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other loved ones.
