Charles Daniel Gritts, or CD to his family and friends, was born on December 16, 1937 in Cherokee county, OK. He was the son of Teeseyahkee “Joe” Gritts and Wakie (Deerinwater) Gritts and the brother to Cecil, JD, Winifred, Jim, and Bill Gritts. He attended school until about the 8th grade and then he decided to help his family make a living. He worked in the nursery industry as a field laborer. In January of 1981, he married John Ann Reese in the home in Briggs. He was the proud father of 3 sons and 5 daughters: Tee Suy Ah Kee, Valerie Renea, Rocky, Wakie Darlene, Angela Rodriguez, Frank, Janet, and Gaylynn.
He loved the great outdoors, being on the river, and driving the backroads. He never missed the chance to go fishing or to head to the woods to hunt deer and squirrels. He loved spending time with his friends but his best times were spent with his 21 grandchildren. He thought they were the smartest and best people on the planet. As his health began to fade, in true “CD fashion”, he remained at home with those he trusted and loved. He passed with his family by his side at the age of 83 years old.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, his wife, John Ann Reese in 2010, his mother and father (Wakie & Joe Gritts), his daughter, Wakie Darlene Deckard, his five brothers (Cecil, JD, Winifred, Jim & Bill), one granddaughter, Vanessa Foutch, two great grandsons, Adyn Foutch and Daniel Gene Smith, Avery Jayden Haynes and one step great granddaughter, Addison Reese.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Tee Suy Ah Kee Gritts and wife Hope of Tahlequah, Valerie Renae Towie and husband Ronnie of Tahlequah, Rocky Grits of Tahlequah, Angela Rodriguez Gonzalez and husband Luis of Tahlequah, Frank Reese and wife Jackie of Cookson, Janet Hambleton and husband Mark of Tahlequah, and Gaylynn Vann Fuentes and husband Jose Pancho of Tahlequah. He will live on in his 21 grandchildren, Sierra Gritts-Farmer of Tulsa, Jose Farmer of Arkansas, Jacob Guerrero of Claremore, Adrian “Andy” Guerrero of Claremore, Bobby Sunday of Welling, Jessica Walker of Tahlequah, Tara Gritts of St. Louis, Dakota Smith of Tahlequah, Sonya Davidson of Tahlequah, Isaiah Gritts of Tahlequah, Silas Gritts of Tahlequah, Shawna Reese of Tahlequah, Nathan Deckard of Welling, Ricky Deckard of Welling, Junior Fuentes of Briggs, Travis Fuentes of Briggs, Zachary Fuentes of Briggs, Marisa Hambleton of Tahlequah, Matthew Hambleton of Tahlequah, Samantha Jackson of Tahlequah, Dustin Reese of Hulbert, Kirk Reese of Pumpkin Hollow, Kelly “Doo” Reese of Pumpkin Hollow, Shannon Reese of Briggs, Robin Reese of Briggs, Isabella Garcia of Tahlequah, and Arieanna Garcia of Tahlequah.
