Carolyn Gale (Poteet) Elkins was born on October 14, 1947, in a log cabin in Briggs, OK, the daughter of William Daniel Poteet and Dorothy Evelyn (Cobb) Smith. Carolyn was also blessed with two step parents Cricket Poteet and Joseph Smith. She was also blessed with two brothers whom she cherished, Paul Poteet and Billy "James" Leigh. She attended school at Nathan Hale High School in Tulsa where her and Gary Busey rode Harleys through the halls. Life was not always easy for Carolyn, she finally met and married the love of her life and her best friend, Jay Ritchie Elkins. They married on December 8, 1980 in Briggs, OK. This union was blessed with 45 years of laughter, hard work and love. Carolyn worked as a teacher for many years. She loved the staff and students at Central Academy, they were family to her and she cherished every day she spent with them. When she had time at home, Carolyn loved to cook, lay in her pool, attend family game nights, concerts, teach her birds to talk (“Oh no, dumb Jays home), sun tan, and petting the baby deer, her goat, and snuggling with her dog Bit Bit. She enjoyed having her great grandson Baby J over to stay, and have lots of family time. She is admired and loved by every person she met, has the biggest heart and helping hand. She made the best fudge you ever had. She was the biggest supporter of anyone who needed encouragement, a hug, a shoulder to cry on or a listening ear. She was always so very proud of her kids and grandkids and what they have accomplished. Her health had a sudden decline and she gained her wings peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and children. A Christian by faith, the Lord called this wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother home from her labors on Saturday December 24, 2022, in Park Hill, OK.
