Carla June (Snell) Winfield was born on September 14, 1964, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to James and Sarah (Whaler) Snell. She was raised in Chewey, Oklahoma with one brother Kawliga and sisters Norma (Beb) and Eva (Sis). Carla attended Skelly School through the 8th grade then went on to Westville High School where she graduated in 1982. Carla grew up playing fastpitch softball, she played for the Oaks ball team where she was coached by her dad James and uncle Henry Whaler. She later went on to play for the Cherokee Stars where she was coached by her sister Norma. When Carla wasn’t at the ball field you would always find her with her best friend, Sue Bird. There was plenty of love and laughter shared between the two. Carla went on to marry her husband Larry Winfield and made her home in Kansas, Oklahoma where they raised their son Ethan and daughters Shanna & Kailey. She was an employee of ABB formally known as Baldor Electric in Westville for nearly 35 years before her health began to decline. Carla enjoyed spending time with her family, especially all her grandkids. She looked forward to family dinners and gatherings. She liked watching sporting events that her grandkids, nieces and nephews had. Running around with Sis looking for yard sales. Watching OU Football and Softball games. Carla was a member of the Illinois River Baptist Church.
The Lord called her home on November 8th in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She is proceeded in death by her parents James & Sarah Snell, Paternal grandparents Homer Snell & Betsy (Oakball) Snell. Maternal grandparents Canutch & Janeanna (Pritchett) Whaler. Brother Kawliga Snell and sisters Mary Sue Snell & Norma Harvey. Nephew Josh Harvey, his companion Casey Rhodd, and two of their children Kawliga and Kiden Harvey.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Larry, son Ethan Winfield, daughters Shanna and husband Johnathan of Salina, OK and Kailey and husband Travis of Salina, OK. Sister Eva Manning of Chewey, OK. 9 grandchildren Noah, Tracker, Hudson, Chase, Lenley, Winston, Kamden, Casen, and Ryder. She leaves three nieces and two nephews, Abby McLemore and Husband Tim of Chewey, OK, Deana Mouse of Peggs, OK, Myra Harvey and companion Shannon Beaver of Tahlequah, OK. Justin Manning and Wife Shana of Siloam Springs, AR, Jarrod Manning and wife Shawna of Chewey, OK. 8 Great nieces, 6 Great Nephews, 2 Great-Great Nieces, one Great-Great Nephew and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral Services for Carla June (Snell) Winfield will be conducted on Tuesday November 15th, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Illinois River Baptist Church in Chewey, OK. Officiated by Bro. Leo Bird and Pastor James Wilkerson. Visitation will be held on Monday November 14th, 2022, from 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Reed-Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah, OK. She will be laid to rest at Thompson cemetery on the Illinois River in Cherokee County.
