Betty Faye Towie Guthrie was born on February 7th, 1944, in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of Alex and Vannie Marie (Tennison) Towie. She grew up with two brothers, Roy Towie and Lincoln Towie and one Sister, Emma Towie Cobb. On January 15th, 1967, she married her best friend and constant companion, Freddie Glen Guthrie. This union was blessed with two sons, Freddie Wayne and James Patrick, and lasted until her husbands passing on August 16th, 2015. She attended college at Northeastern State University and obtained her Masters Degree in Psychology and Counseling. She worked as the head counselor at the San Carlos Apache Reservation for over ten years. She loved her clients and worked tirelessly to make life for them as good as possible. She loved learning and was always improving her education. Whenever she was not at work, she was in the kitchen, making the best homemade pizza, chocolate gravy, no bake cookies, and lemon meringue pie, it was her Daddy’s favorite. She was known to spend a little time out in the vegetable garden with her husband. She would pick up a pair of knitting needles from time to time and knit, but would throw them down as soon as Freddie said it was time to go to a yard sale. She was happiest when spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She constantly encouraged them to push to obtain their goals. She was stubborn with an independent streak. Betty always had a candy surprise for her grandchildren hidden in her pocket. She loved her family dearly. A Christian by faith, she attended the Keys Church of God, attending weekly until her health no longer permitted. The Lord called his faithful servant home from her labors on January 22nd, 2018 in Tulsa, OK. She was 73 years old. She will be missed.
Betty is preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother and father, her husband, and her brother, Roy Towie.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Freddie Wayne Guthrie and James Patrick Guthrie and wife Robbi all of Park Hill, OK. She leaves one brother and one sister, Lincoln Towie and Emma Cobb both of Tahlequah. She lives on in her five grandchildren, Stacie Boston and husband Colten, Tyler James Guthrie, Chance Hunter Guthrie, Cole Austin Guthrie and wife Macey, and Kylie Rae Guthrie and companion Cody Vance all of Tahlequah. There are two great grandchildren, Conner Ryne Guthrie and BrenLeigh Ann Marie Guthrie both of Stilwell, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
