Betty Clements, 94, formerly of Glenpool, Oklahoma passed away on February 10, 2024 at Heritage Grove Assisted Living Facility. Beatrice (Betty) Lucille Carroll was born April 20, 1929 in Beggs, Oklahoma, the daughter of Everett and Ruby Carroll. She was the second of five siblings. Born at the beginning of the Great Depression her family struggled to make ends meet especially when Everett passed away leaving Ruby to raise four young children. While the hardship she endured as a child definitely left a lasting impression, she made sure she spent her money wisely and was never wasteful. It gave her an appreciation for family. Family was the most important part of her life. After high school Betty attended business school where she learned skills she would use throughout her life in a variety of jobs starting with Frank’s Jewelry in Tulsa until she retired from Entex in Houston in the early 1990’s. In 1954 she married Lawrence (Larry) Manen Clements Jr. She met Larry when he hired her to work in his business, The Oklahoma Leather Goods Company. They had two children, Larry (1955) and Cara (1963). In 1960 Betty and Larry moved to Shawnee, Kansas where they lived and raised their children until 1979. Their little ranch style home had a large yard where Betty would plant a garden every year…the most important crop being Okra, that she would cook all summer long. In 1979 the couple moved to Pasadena, Texas where unfortunately, her husband Larry would pass away only two years later. Betty had begun work at Entex and would remain there until she retired. Upon retirement she returned to Oklahoma to be near family. She had a home built for her in Glenpool, OK where she would live for the next thirty years. During those years she played an active part in the lives of her family especially her daughter Cara’s four daughters. Larry’s family would always enjoy their trips to grandma’s house and being part of the hub of family that surrounded Betty. During Betty’s final years she began to decline and was able to rely on help from Cara and her younger sister Ellen. She also had many great neighbors who would check in and visit regularly. All of those who knew Betty were aware of her cantankerous side, but if you were in need she would help as best as she could. Betty did not have a glamorous life but she had a full one that touched many lives.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Larry, her sister Melvina, and brothers Raymond and Jimmy.
Betty is survived by her sister Ellen Wesley, her children and their spouses Larry Clements (Kassy Clements) and Cara Schwichtenberg (Larry Schwichtenberg). She also has seven grandchildren and their spouses, Ashly Call, Zachary (Hilary), Deven (Molly) and Brandi Clements, Skye, Erin and Sydney Schwichtenberg and three great grandchildren, Lila, Parker and Emery. She also has many nieces and nephews. There will be no services at this time but there will be a celebration of life later this year.
Graveside Memorial services for Betty will be held at Bixby Cemetery at a later date.
