Alfred Wilson Franklin Jr., or the “Alfalfantor” as his nieces teased him, was born on December 10th, 1963 in Claremore, OK, the son of Alfred Wilson and Betty Sue (Fodder) Franklin Sr. He grew up with two brothers and two sisters, William, Hal, Delaine, and Karen. He attended school at Tahlequah High School and then decided on a career working in farm implements and retail sales. He loved people and was easy going and fun to talk to. When he wasn’t working, there was nothing Alfred liked better than music, especially the Beatles. He played guitar, bass and drums, classic rock of any kind. Alfred was never one to miss a chance to go to Rocklahoma and enjoy an entire weekend of music with his wife, Dorothy. He was a football enthusiast and couldn’t wait to watch the OU Sooners or the Pittsburgh Steelers play. He was an avid collector of any number of things, CD’s, books, army soldiers, cars and anything else that caught his eye, He was always in the company of his best buddies, his feline friend, Jasper and his canine companion, Heinz! His family meant the world to him, and he loved any chance to gather together and celebrate the day or share a meal. He loved to get together with his friends to hand out, tell tall tales and bless them with some of his humor. His sense of humor was always well timed and witty. He was loving, stubborn if thought himself right, and always there for those who asked for his help. He was the best son, brother, father, husband, uncle, and cousin, ready when you needed him and always with that big smile and that curly dark hair! His wife Dorothy Riley passed in 2018. Alfred kept the house clean and the yard mowed, and kept track of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews until his health failed him. The Lord called this kind and loving man home from his many labors on September 23rd, 2020 in Tahlequah, OK with his loved ones by his side. He was 56 years old.
He is preceded by his grandparents, William and Florence Fodder and Nelson and Frances Franklin, his mother and father, Alfred Franklin and Betty Fodder-Hair, two brothers, William Franklin and Hal Vann and one sister, Delaine Bird.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Derrick Franklin of Hugh, OK, Julian Franklin of Tahlequah, OK, Melanie Franklin of Florida, and Stormy Riley also of Tahlequah, OK. His nieces and nephew include Sara Moreno of Tahlequah, Jimmi Buckhorn of Tahlequah, Bethany Romero and husband Alejandro of Tahlequah, Brian Bird and wife Chyla of Tahlequah, and Amanda Eubanks and husband Troy of Stilwell.
