William O. “Dutch” Lamprecht was born August 22, 1916 in Nopal, Texas to Dietreich and Emma (Seifert) Lamprecht. He passed away on May 4, 2013 in Floresville, Texas at the age of 96. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Ewald (Corrine) from Lubbock, Texas and Norman (Mary) from San Antonio, Texas and a sister Belva Armstrong (Art). He is survived by another sister, Alfreda Scharper (Sweeny) of Seguin, Texas.
Dutch was raised in Stockdale, Texas and served as class president and football captain for the Stockdale Brahmas. He graduated along with his high school sweetheart, Bernice Riley in 1938. They married shortly thereafter and settled in Taft, Texas.
Dutch enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII and served in the Seabees. Most of his enlistment time was spent in Okinawa. After his return to Taft, Dutch became self-employed and opened “Dutch’s Service Station” on Highway 181. For the next few decades, Dutch and his employee, Ernest Pleasant, would service the citizens of Taft and keep their autos safe and on the road.
Dutch and Bernice’s union was blessed with the birth of their son William O. “Doc” Lamprecht, Jr. (Sherri). His son graduated from Texas A&M with a doctorate in Plant Physiology and went on to work as a Biology Professor for the University of South Carolina, Salkahatchie. He has since retired with the honor of “Distinguished Professor Emeritus” and upon his retirement he moved his family back to Floresville, Texas where they currently live. Dutch enjoyed his grandchildren, Melinda Lamprecht from Orangeburg, South Carolina, Allison Tinnel (Danny) of Hardeeville, South Carolina and John Andrew Rogers who is attending college in Austin, Texas. He will be missed by his great-grandson, Tyler Zander Tinnel.
Dutch was very active in his community earning several awards from his involvement with Kiwanis and Mason organizations. Dutch was a charter member of the Taft Kiwanis club, serving as past president and enjoyed over 50 years of perfect attendance.
In 1981 Dutch lost the love of his life with Bernice’s passing. In 1986, Dutch remarried Marion Duprie (Crites) and welcomed the family expansion with Marion’s six children, Jim (Elaine) Duprie, La Vernia, Texas, Celeste (Mike) McCabe, Boerne, Texas, Don (Debbie) Duprie, Portland, Texas and Sue (Nash) Hardeman, Boerne, Texas. Preceding him in death were Larry Duprie and Noe Duprie.
Dutch and Marion also enjoyed their grandchildren Stephanie (Todd) Routh, Austin, Texas, James (Laura) Duprie, Goliad, Texas, Greg (Karen) Sutton, Katy, Texas, Justin Duprie, Los Angeles, California, Katie (Joe) Cantu, San Antonio, Texas, Jennifer (John) Heymann, San Antonio, Texas, David Sien, Jr., Austin, Texas. They were also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Colonial Funeral Home, 204 N. Meyer, Taft, Texas 78390 on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 302 McIntyre Ave., Taft, Texas 78390 with Rev. John Saint officiating.
Interment to follow in Palms Memorial Gardens in Portland, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Diabetes Association or Autism Speaks.
Arrangements are entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home, Taft.
