Roy Leon McElwee

Roy Leon McElwee, of Taft, Texas passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2010, at the age of 84. He was born November 4, 1925, in Palmyra, Missouri. Roy and his wife moved to Taft in May of 1953. He worked at Reynolds Sherwin Plant for many years, retiring in November, 1981. He was active in starting Sherwin Federal Credit Union as well as the Union at Sherwin. Roy was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Taft, serving as an elder for many years. 'Mac' and Earlene started RVing in 1980, and were members of the Good Sam Club, Sparkling Chapter. They spent many happy years traveling in their motor home.

Roy is preceded in death by his son, Scott Alan McElwee.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Earlene Benke McElwee; one daughter, Roylene (David) Tiner of Taft; one son, Ross (Brenda) McElwee of Aransas Pass, Texas; grandsons: Aaron (Mandi) Edwards of Portland, Texas, Russell McElwee of Aransas Pass and Devon (Dawn) Tiner of Roanoke, Texas; granddaughters: Sara (Joseph) Buttery of Beeville, Texas, Holly and Katy McElwee of Aransas Pass and Hollie (Lincoln) Davis of Rockport, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Presbyterian Church of Taft, 510 McIntyre, Taft, Texas 78390 or a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be Monday, May 17, 2010, at Colonial Funeral Chapel from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church of Taft, at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will follow the service at Taft Memorial Park.
