James C. “Jake” Myers, 91, passed away September 18, 2016. He was born July 27, 1925 in Florence, Texas to Bud Myers and Lillie Mae Chambers Myers. He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II in 1943, serving in the Infantry in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1946 and was awarded several Bronze Stars and many other decorations. Jake was a member of the First Baptist Church of Taft. He was a retired oil contractor, an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. Jake was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Louise Burke, Bernice Allen, Dorothy Frazier, Mary Jo Hosea and Evelyn Ebarb. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary G. “Jeri” Myers; daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Larry Mayfield of Taft, TX, two grandsons, Jason Mayfield of Wimberley, TX and Wesley (Lesley) Mayfield of Taft, TX; four great grandchildren, Kylee Mayfield, Calvin Mayfield, Parker Mayfield and Payton Mayfield and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Taft with interment to follow at The Palms Memorial Gardens in Portland, Texas.
