

Gumecindo P. Narvaez, 78, loving husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather passed away Monday, May 17, 2010, after a short illness. He was born on March 5, 1932, in Odem, Texas, to Marcelo and Emilia Narvaez.
He graduated from Corpus Christi Academy in 1951. He served in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He worked in various fields and joined the Corpus Christi Fire Department on January 4, 1960. After 30 years of public service, he retired from the department on March 26, 1990.
He was a devout catholic who lived to serve his Lord. His mornings were spent in prayer and he devoted a daily rosary to our blessed mother. For many years he was a parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Sinton, Texas. Most recently, he became a member of Christ the King Church in Corpus Christi. During his years of faithful service, he became a Cursillista and experienced the spirit of God through the ACTS retreat.
In addition to his faith, he devoted his time and payer to his family. He was lovingly known as “PoPo” to his grandchildren and was their #1 fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Geraldine Narvaez of Corpus Christi and his five children: Joe Narvaez (Stella) of Corpus Christi; Daniel Narvaez and his wife, Luisa, of Castroville, Texas ; Irma Garcia (Kyle) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Norma Cullum and her husband, Ray, of Corpus Christi, and Nora Narvaez (Cesar) of Corpus Christi, Texas; 11 grandchildren: Nydia Narvaez, Daniel Anthony Narvaez, Jason Narvaez, Daniell (DeeDee) Narvaez, Zachary Garcia, Jake Garcia, Gabriella Cullum, Douglas Garcia, Gabriel Narvaez, Kara Cullum and Denee Cullum; and one greet-grandchild, Daniel Narvaez, II.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Anthony, Jason, Zachary, Jake, Douglas, and Gabriel.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ray Cullum, Cesar Valdez, Ben Cisneros, Luis Heras, and Gilbert Silva, Jr.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Colonial Funeral Home in Taft, Texas, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Taft, Texas, Thursday, May 20, 2010. Interment will follow at Taft Memorial Park.
