Gene E. Woodard went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at the age of 77. He was born June 1, 1933, in Colorado City, Texas. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Maylee Woodard, his brother Gail and his great grandson, Ashton. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Taft, Texas; one sister, Carley and husband Jim Salisbury of Odessa, Texas; his sons, Rex and wife Kathleen of Portland, Texas and Kent and wife Joy of Sweetwater, Texas; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Gene retired from Reynolds Metals after twenty- nine years of service, but his passion was serving his Lord in The Gideon’s and the prison ministry. He was on the Gideon State Cabinet for twelve years and made multiple mission trips to foreign countries.
Gene also served his country as a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was active in his community, serving on the City Council for several terms and received the Humanitarian Award from the City of Taft.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 18, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at The Palms Memorial Gardens, Portland.
