It is with great sadness that we announce the homegoing of our loved one, Tierra Cynita Renecia, “T-Newt” Newton. Tierra was born in Syracuse, NY to Tanita and Carl Newton, Sr. both of Syracuse, NY. Tierra was a student of the Syracuse City School District whereby she attended Sumner Pre-K, H.W. Smith Elementary School, and Levy Middle School. She also attended Nottingham High School and graduated with a Regents Diploma. Tierra furthered her education at Onondaga Community College pursuing a degree in Architecture and Business Administration. Tierra excelled at OCC making the Dean’s List with a 3.0 GPA. As a youth, Tierra was very active. She was a ballerina and tap dancer at the Jack Groneau Dance Studio. She was a cheerleader and football player for Sherman Park, played Y.E.O.P sports, and basketball for the Nottingham girls Varsity basketball team. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and participated in service as a Jr. Usher Board member. Tierra was employed with Elmcrest Children’s Center as a Prep Cook and Complemar as a Production Worker.
Tierra is survived by her parents, Carl and Tanita Newton; one special nephew, Daishawn Miller, Jr.; sisters, Ta'Nerra, Ta’Carra and Ta’nira Newton, Ta’Davia and Ta’Davanita Gist and Monique Cain; brothers, Carl, Dayquinn and Isaac Newton and Ken Kinsey, Jr.; grandmothers, Cynthia Kinsey, Rosa Newton and Minnie Hunter-Cotten; great-grandmother, Elizabeth Kinsey; special uncle and cousin, Rondell Kinsey, Jr. and Sr.; god-mothers, Helen Kinsey and Velma Thomas; god-father and uncle, Ken Kinsey, Sr.; four god-brothers; three god-sisters; two god-children, Trey’vion Holloway and Dey’vion Coger; long-time close friend, Trinicia Bowman; brother-in-law, Daishawn Miller, Sr. and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 12 noon at Tucker Missionary Baptist Church. Private burial will follow. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the church, 515 Oakwood Avenue, Syracuse.
