Nicholas M. Scali, 82, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday surrounded by his loving family. A life resident of Syracuse, Nicholas retired from New York Central and Penn Central as a Railway Police Officer and he also retired from Niagara Mohawk, where he started as a Security Guard and later worked as Shipper/Receiver. He served with the Army National Guard 27th Division for nine years and also played trumpet in the Army Band for three years. Nicholas was a member of the American Legion Eastwood Post 1276 where he served as Chaplain for seven years and was also a member of the John Vendetti Post #1. Mr. Scali was a member of the National Railroad Retirement Club, Niagara Mohawk Retirement Club, the American Italian Heritage Club, and also Blessed Sacrament Golden Agers. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. He was predeceased by his parents Vincenzo and Maria Scali.
Nicholas is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley (Lipari) Scali of Syracuse; daughters, Marie (Tony) Ianno of East Syracuse, Laura (Dennis) Normoyle of Liverpool, and Linda Capria of North Syracuse; two granddaughters, Stefania Ianno and Nicholle Capria; brothers, Anthony Scali and Vincent Scali, both of Syracuse; sisters, Concetta Geiss and Rosina Giacobbie; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday 9:15 a.m. at FARONE & SON FUNERAL HOME and 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park Street, Syracuse.
