John "Jack" F. Williams

John “Jack” F. Williams, 92, of North Syracuse passed away Tuesday. He was born on January 30, 1920 in Utica, and spent much of his childhood in Waterville, NY. He graduated from Hamilton College in 1941 and entered the service. He married Doris Fuess from Waterville on November 25, 1943. He served as a Captain in the US Army during WWII and participated in the D-Day landing and the Battle of the Bulge. Leaving the service at the end of WWII, he attended Cortland College and became a Physical Education Teacher. He taught in Van Hornsville, Watertown and North Syracuse School Districts and coached a number of sports; including football, baseball and wrestling. As a result of his coaching success and dedication to the sport of wrestling, Jack was inducted into the Watertown, Section III, NY State, and National Wrestling Halls of Fame. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Doris, daughter, Patricia (Jon) Williams, son, Jack (Ana) Williams, son, David (Eileen) Williams, daughter, Wendy (Reinier) Scheening, grandchildren, Christopher (Laurel) Williams, Kelly (Gregg) Waldron, Timothy (Kathryn) Williams, and Katherine Williams, great granddaughter Brynn Williams and many close friends, wrestlers and relatives. Known for his sense of humor, dedication to his family and enjoying his annual trips to Las Vegas, Jack would turn any event into a joyful experience. His sharp wit, social demeanor and ever-ready laugh will be greatly missed.

Calling hours will be held at the Farone & Son Funeral Home, 1500 Park St., Syracuse from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 1. There will be a memorial celebration of his life at 5 p.m. where there will be an opportunity to share thoughts and experiences. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of CNY.
