Johanna F. Miller, 80, of Syracuse and Owasco, passed away of cancer at the Francis House. Johanna graduated from North High School, St. Mary’s Nursing Program and Central City Business Institute. She had a 27 year career as a dental assistant, working with her husband, Dr. John R. Miller of Liverpool, until his death in 1979. Upon retirement, she became active in many church functions and organizations. A lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Church, she devoted time to Alter Rosary, Choir, and festival work. Always in service to others, she was active in Catholic Daughters of America, the Auxiliary League of St. Jude, and the Italian Cultural Club, both of Syracuse and Auburn. She loved to travel with the Catholic Golden Agers. Her love of the beach drew her to Puerto Rico in the winter and Owasco Lake in the summer. She was a wonderful cook and in her earlier years would knit and crochet for the family. We will remember her kindness and generosity to all, her most gracious hospitality and her willingness to care for those in need. Her sense of humor and love of life will surely be missed.
Johanna is survived by three step children, Ann (Dick) Deming of Philadelphia, Joan (Don) of Ft. Myers, FL, and John (Sue) of Captiva, FL. She leaves behind six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert Fudo and Dominick “Skip” (Martha) Fudo, both of Syracuse; sister, Dolores (Greg) Bowen of Syracuse; several nieces and nephews. Johanna was predeceased by her husband, Dr. John R. Miller; brother, Nicholas Fudo; and sister, Grace Fudo.
