Anthony “Tony” J. Nardiello, 81, of Syracuse passed away peacefully on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Central Park. He was a graduate of Eastwood High School and Central City Business Institute. He was an outstanding athlete for Eastwood High School where he played basketball, baseball, football and track. He also played basketball for Central City Business Institute, coached youth baseball and basketball, and also played these sports recreationally, as well as semi-pro football for the Bison Club. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 as a Sergeant Major where he also was captain of his battalion’s basketball team. Many years ago it was written that his good sense of humor and pleasing personality made him a standout on and off the field, and those word rung true for Tony Nardiello until his passing. He was employed by General Electric, but is better known as an accomplished automobile salesman for more than 40 years. During his automobile sales and management career, he was employed at Paglia Pontiac, Pat Bombard Buick and Joe Romano Buick and Chevrolet. He was also an avid golfer who enjoyed playing rounds of golf with his buddies. He was a long standing member of the Italian American Athletic Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Connie (Centra) Nardiello; his daughter, Kathleen A. Nardiello; his sister, Mary Ciciarelli; his brother-in-laws, Dino Centra, Nick DiBello and Alfred Terrinoni; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Terrinoni; and several nieces and nephews. He was a fantastic person, especially to his wife, daughter, his family and friends. His family and friends will miss his sense of humor, no nonsense approach to life, his caring compassion, and his loving presence.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday 9:15 a.m. at FARONE & SON FUNERAL HOME and 10 a.m. in Assumption Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park Street.
