Richard M. Morris was born in Jamaica, NY and lived his entire life in Queens until he moved to Woodbury one year ago. He was married to the love of his life, Dolores, for 58 years and they lived in Flushing for 50 years. Richard had four daughters whom he adored, three wonderful sons-in-law, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was most proud of his daughters. He delighted in their accomplishments and could often be seen coming home from work with a bouquet of flowers to thank them for their efforts. Needless to say, this raised the bar substantially for their future husbands.
Richard was known for his kind & gentle ways, including his love of pets. He loved his German Shepherds and later, the stray cats that he and Dolores either adopted from the streets or took in from people who could no longer care for them. It was not uncommon to see Richard in his recliner holding a sleeping Jake, a Siamese cat, on his lap with his paws up in the air.
Richard also loved his tomato plants. At one time, he had over a hundred plants in his backyard, which yielded well over 1000 tomatoes. He enjoyed giving them away to friends and neighbors.
He had a beautifully trained voice and sang professionally at one time. He was known for his renditions of religious and pop songs, especially “Oh My Papa”, originally made famous by Eddie Fisher, Carrie Fisher’s father.
Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dolores, and his four daughters and their husbands: Maureen and Jim, Kathleen, Eileen and John, and Patricia and Bill. His nine grandchildren are Richard, John, Matthew, Liam, Keira, Ava, Michael, Julia, and Katherine. He is also blessed by a beautiful two-year-old great-granddaughter, Jolie.
Richard has truly touched so many lives for the good. We will miss him!
