Mary Loretta Reynolds Murphy

April 11, 1921 – September 4, 2019

The family of Mary Murphy, of Syosset, Long Island, is greatly saddened by her passing on September 4, 2019 at the age of 98. Mary lived life to the fullest as a wife and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love for her family and friends knew no limits.

Mary was born to William H. and Florence (Ferrill) Reynolds in 1921. She grew up in the Rockaways. On March 25, 1943 she married John Edward Murphy (Jack). They were happily married for 49 years.

Mary is remembered by many, chief among them her three sons and three daughters: Joan (Jim), Patricia, John (Donna), Thomas (Cindy), Peter (Deb), and Gina (Joe). Mary is survived by seventeen dear grandchildren, Eileen, Elizabeth, Hope, Owen, Tyler, Tara, Ryan, Heather, Thomas, Christopher, Kyle, Jaci, Taylor, Dylan, Brendan, Patrick, and Colleen. Mary is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, (Quinn, Willa, August, Emmett, Emma, Jack, Sam, Jackson, Jesse, and Ava), by her brother-in-law Joseph D. Murphy, and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack of almost fifty years, by her siblings Ruth (Reynolds) Davey and William F. Reynolds, by her brother-in-law Edward John Murphy, and by her granddaughter Jennifer Donnelly.

The family would like to thank all of the people who cared for Mary over the last decade, Mae, Rose and all her caregivers. And an enormous debt is owed to Mercy Curry, who took care of Mary’s every need and who treated her with loving kindness and dignity every day.

Visitation will be held at Beney Funeral Home at 79 Berry Hill Road, Syosset, on Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Edward Confessor Catholic Church in Syosset on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 9:45 a.m.

Interment will take place at St. Charles Cemetery, Pinelawn, NY.
