Mary Coppola, age 85 of Woodbury, New York, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Beloved wife of the late John. Loving mother of Madeline, Jimmy, John and Frank. Devoted grandmother to Anthony, Lauren,, Jaclyn, Kaveh,, John, Dominique, John and Ava Adoring great-grandmother of Olivia, Ella, Evie, Shay, Sal, Camryn and Noah.
Raised in the Greek Orthodox faith by her parents, Photios and Anastasia, who immigrated from Ipiros, Greece, she was the youngest of three older siblings, Chris, Billy and Angela. Mary graduated from James Monroe High School one year ahead of schedule. She met the love of her life, John, at 18 years old. They married two years later on August 10, 1958 and were married just shy of 35 years at the time of his passing in June 1993. She stood by her husband and stayed home with their 3 children so that John could work and further his education. Upon his graduation and in recognition for her steadfast support, John gave Mary her own degree, "PHTS" {Putting Hubby Through School).
Once her children were of school age, she worked for many years as a Legal Secretary as she had a very sharp and keen mind for the law, numbers and organization. She completely loved and was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Next to them, some of her favorite things included Frank Sinatra, the New York Yankees,dancing, (she was known as "Cha Cha Mary") and socializing with friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 3:00pm-8:00pm. A funeral mass will occur on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 11:00am, Church of the Holy Resurrection, 1400 Cedar Swamp Road, Brookville, NY 11545. A burial to follow at Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Rd, Westbury, NY 11590.
