Sylvania – Hazel Lee Blackburn Loper, age 79, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. The Screven County native was born to the late David Hamilton & Frankie French Blackburn. She was a retired Elementary School teacher having taught for 15 years in different schools in Carroll Co., MD. She also taught piano for many years and in addition, she played the organ/piano in various churches for over 60 years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church.
Her survivors include her loving husband of 59 years: Dr. Kenneth Clark Loper of Sylvania; Her daughter and son-in-law: Patricia & Kevin Bennett of Westminster, MD; Her sons and daughters-in-law: Dr. K. Alan & Laurie Loper of Pickerington, OH, John B. & Lori Loper of Lenoir City, TN, Dr. Daniel C. & Teri Loper of Monroe, GA and David B. & Susan Loper of Sykesville, MD; Her sister: Mary W. “Dolly” O’Quinn of Midway, GA; 12 Grandchildren; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Visiting hours for Mrs. Loper will be from 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM at the Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church prior to the services.
A Catholic Mass for Mrs. Loper will be observed: Saturday, August 3, 2013, at 3:00 PM at the Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Louis Lussier officiating. Graveside Services and Burial at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Sykesville, MD on Monday, August 5, 2013 at 1:00 PM under the direction of Haight Funeral Home & Chapel.
