Sylvania – Dr. Gerald Alan Jones, age 69, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. He was born in Laurel, Mississippi, was a member of Sylvania First Baptist Church and was a Professor and Director Emeritus of Engineering Studies at Georgia Southern University. Dr. Jones has been with GSU since 1991 and upon his retirement in 2007, he was a tenured full professor and had served 16 years as the director of the Regent’s Engineering Transfer Program (RETP) from Georgia Southern to Georgia Tech. Dr. Jones was an aerospace engineer, earning his degrees at Mississippi State (his Ph.D. in 1988). Even in retirement, he still had a passion for engineering education and continued on a part-time basis to teach foundational courses such as Statics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics. He was an integral part of developing and growing engineering at GSU. Mr. Jones was also a skilled musician, avid horseman and a loyal Mississippi State University and Georgia Southern football fan. He was preceded in death by His Parents: Victor Nathaniel & Annie Marie Crawford Jones; Sister: Jerry Louise Moss.

Wolfe, Mallory Z. Jones and Skye L. Jones, all of Savannah, GA; Niece: Linda Moss of Baltimore, MD; Nephew: Mike Moss of Johns Creek, GA.
Memorial Service: Saturday, October 11, 2014 at11:00 A.M. at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Chapel with Dr. Charlie Cooper and Rev. Mike Mann officiating.
