Millen, GA –Retired Major Edwin Noboru Arita, Jr., age 73, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Riverview Health and Rehab in Savannah, GA. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to the late Edwin Noboru, Sr. & Mary Louise Kiyomi Kaida Arita. He was retired from the U. S. Marine Corps after 24 years, having served in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart for combat injuries. He was a Prisoner of War in Vietnam for a time. After retirement from the Marine Corps, he was an agent for Life Insurance Co. of Georgia and also worked for the State of Georgia as a Project Manager. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and was a Mason. He was also a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Millen and the Barber Shop Chorus of Fayetteville, GA.
Survivors: Wife: Betty Thompson Arita of Millen, GA; Daughters and Son-In-Law: Stacey Adamson of Panama City, FL, Nicole & David Fuller of Covington, GA, Kirsten Williams and Ashley Williams, both of Atlanta, GA; Sisters: Adelle Fiedelman of Brecken Ridge, CO and Cindy Bauer of MI; Brother: Michael Arita of Enid, OK; 8 Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews.
Visitation: Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Wiggins officiating. Burial following at Millen Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
