William R. (Billy) Hodges died peacefully at his home in Newnan, Georgia, on March 24th, 2021. Born on July 25th, 1938, to Edgar H. and Willie S. Hodges, Billy grew up in Coosa County, Alabama, and graduated from Sylacauga High School in 1957. After serving in the Air National Guard for a few years, he married and started a family. He lived and worked mostly in the Sylacauga area until moving to Perryton, Texas, in 1981 to begin a career in oil field sales. After his retirement, he moved to Newnan, Georgia.
His high-school yearbook description as “happy-go-lucky” was an apt characterization of Billy’s perspective on life. He took life’s ups and downs philosophically, with a sharp sense of humor and profound gratitude. He loved his family deeply and they will miss him very much.
He is survived by his children, Julia Ann Hodges (Michael Merino) of Washington, DC, Janet Hodges Roden (Rickey) of Sharpsburg, GA and Scott Hodges (Connie) of Bastrop, TX; grandchildren, Jill Duddleston (James), Laura Roden, Elizabeth Hodges, and Zachary Hodges; brothers, Reid Hodges and Edgar S. Hodges (Faye); sister, Kathryn Wright (Leonard); several nieces and nephews. Billy is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Yancey Hodges and brother, Rowe Hodges.
A small graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Sylacauga, Alabama at 2 PM on Saturday, March 27th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in Amarillo, Texas: www.calfarley.org.
