After bravely fighting heart disease for many years, Tierce E. Sasser, Jr. (Terry), of Helena died peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Ray Sasser. He is survived by his wife, Natalie Jones Sasser; his children, Beth Sasser Murray (Tyler), Hope Sasser Maxwell (John) and Byron Sasser; grandchildren, Robbie Murray, Dayton Sasser, Madelyn Maxwell and Brooks Maxwell; sister, Lynn Sasser Medders (Norman); his beloved parents Mary and Gene Sasser; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Terry was born on September 6, 1962, in Warner Robins, Georgia. Terry was an outstanding athlete in his youth and a member of the 1975 Sylacauga Little League All-Star team that went on to win the Alabama Little League State Championship. He played baseball, football, and basketball during high school and graduated from Coosa Valley Academy in 1980. After high school, he moved to Birmingham and attended the University of Alabama, Birmingham while working full-time as an Emergency Medical Technician II for Hank's Ambulance Service. He later joined Southern Company and enjoyed a successful 30 year career until his failing health forced him to retire.
Terry was a member of Valley View Church of God and a devoted Auburn football fan and Nascar fan. He was an avid StormChaser for ABC3340 for several years and enjoyed volunteering his time and talents to keep the surrounding communities and counties informed and weather aware. If you wanted to know who to call to ask about snow chances or severe weather possibilities, Terry was your guy. He also enjoyed volunteering his time for Gardendale Youth Sports when his son was involved in baseball and football. The last few years, he enjoyed the grandchildren coming over to swim in the pool and cooking on the grill. Nobody could grill a steak, hamburger or hotdog like Pawpaw. His favorite holiday was Christmas and he loved showering his wife, children, and grandchildren with gifts. He was so loved and will be truly missed by so many.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, December 1 at Valley View Church of God at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service followed by an interment at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Ken Graben, Paul Jones, Norman Medders, Craig Jones, Sam Albert, and Mack Ingram. Honorary pallbearers will be Employees of Southern Company.
