Robert is survived by his wife, Ann Cunningham; his son Jarrod Freeman Cunningham (Sonja) of Sylacauga, Alabama; and his daughter Jourdan Lynne Cunningham of Pelham, Alabama; his sister Lanis Cunningham Pope of West Blocton, Alabama; his granddaughter Neeley Cunningham of Sylacauga, Alabama, his grandson Reed Ezekiel (Morgan) and his great granddaughter Oaklynn Ezekiel and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his son Robert W. Cunningham, Jr.; his father Walter F. Cunningham and his mother Mildred Lorine Cunningham; his brother James Cunningham; his brother William Cunningham and his sister Frances Lee; and his stepfather Freeman Nichols.
Robert married Ann in 1983. He graduated from West Blocton High School in 1962 and received extensive training from Alabama Fire College. He worked for the State Department of Mental Health as Director of Certification and Technical Services. Robert loved spending time with family, friends and his dog Ridley. He enjoyed singing, listening to Elvis music especially gospel songs, playing golf, fishing, watching Alabama football, and eating catfish, pancakes and drinking coffee and diet cokes.
A visitation for Robert will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home, 1315 Talladega Hwy, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
