She was a proud graduate of B. B. Comer Memorial School (1973) where she actively participated as a member of the Marching Sound of Gold as a trumpet player and majorette. She touched the lives of thousands of Sylacauga youth by having served as a youth sports coach in basketball, cheerleading, softball, and baseball for over 25 years with the Sylacauga Parks & Recreation Department and Sylacauga Little League. She was owner and Operator of P&D's Food Mart for 20+ years, served as president and officer with the Sylacauga Jaycees for several years and was highly engaged in the community of Sylacauga.
To celebrate Phylliss’ many years of service to the youth and athletics of Sylacauga, the family strongly encourages donations to the Sylacauga Parks and Recreation Athletics Department in memory of Phylliss G. Henderson in lieu of flowers/greenery. Donations can be made via check payable to Sylacauga Parks and Recreation Athletics Department and sent to PO Box 1245, Sylacauga, AL 35150. Or memorial donations can be sent to Bryant Henderson via Venmo @BryantHenderson and the family will deliver to SPARD.
