Larry Jay Sumners, age 74, of Sylacauga, Alabama passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021 surrounded by his family and friends. Larry was born December 22, 1946 to Olga Acevedo and Sidney Jay Sumners.
Larry served his country in the Army from 1966 until 1968 as a SP5 and served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. He owned and operated Sumners Paint and Body for 43 years, and worked in the Avondale trucking department for 31 years.
Larry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Denise Meadows Sumners; three sons, Cary Jay Sumners of Long Island, New York, Joshua Jay Sumners of Sylacauga, Alabama, and Camden Reed Sumners of Sylacauga, Alabama; brother William Dane Sumners of Sylacauga, Alabama; and his grandchildren Jordan Crew Sumners, Jada Catherine Sumners, Camden Joshua Sumners, Cadence Olivia Sumners, Eva Blakely Sumners, and "Chico" Moreno Esquinaldo Sumners.
Larry was preceded in death by son Gabriel Reed Sumners; father Sidney Jay Sumners and mother Olga Acevedo; and sister Vivian Sumners Porter.
A visitation for Larry will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Radney-Smith Funeral Home, 320 North Elm Avenue, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150. A funeral service will occur Monday, July 12, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Sylacauga First Assembly of God with Bro. Brian Jones officiating.
