Nita Hebson died peacefully March 11, 2025, at Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Nita was born May 27, 1928. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Minnie Blackmon, her husband of 65 years, CB Hebson, her brother Adrian, her sister Lorine, half-brothers Percy, Limon, Dewey, Claude and half-sister Kate.
She will be remembered as a woman of strong faith that deeply loved her family, her church and her God. Her family included her sons Tony (Wyna) Hebson, Randy (Paige) Hebson, Tim (Jo) Hebson, and her daughter, Kim (Steve) Hancock. Gigi, as she was called by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, had a special place in her heart for all of them: Cam (Carolyn) Hebson, Drew (Susan) Hebson, Ryan (Jessica) Hebson, Lesley (Sean) Works, Ryan Norman, Jarrod (Elizabeth) Norman, and Kasey Hancock. Her great grandchildren were Henry Hebson, Madeleine Hebson, Alice Hebson, Sam Hebson, Anna Grace Hebson, Sage Hebson, Ryder Hebson, Jackson Works, Ellie Rose Works and Crawford Norman.
Nita was a full-time mother to her children throughout her life. That was her job, and she was amazing in that role. Nita was an active member of Marble City Baptist Church as well as First Baptist Church of Sylacauga. At First Baptist, she started the Career Class which grew tremendously. She loved all the members of that class like her family. In 2004, CB and Nita left Sylacauga to move to the Riverchase area of Birmingham to be closer to their children and the Riverchase Galleria. She loved shopping and appreciated “beautiful things”, especially at Von Maur!
CB and Nita joined Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Vestavia Hills, where they loved their Sunday School (Life Group) class – especially the “Love class”. Nita took great joy watching her backyard “zoo” filled with flowers and birds that reminded her of God’s creation and the seasons of life. Her constant motto was “Life is good” and attributed that to God’s faithfulness.
There will be a private service for family members only officiated by the Reverend Keith Pugh. Nita loved Keith and his wife, Teresa. The burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel are coordinating the arrangements.
